The opening of the Equip Vocational Hub at The Center for Developmental Disabilities represents far more than the launch of a new program — it represents a community coming together to create meaningful opportunities for individuals with disabilities who have too often been overlooked in the workforce. At a time when more than 77% of people with disabilities are not participating in the labor force, the Equip Hub stands as a powerful response to a growing need for inclusive vocational training, skill development, and long-term support.

Located at The Center in Woodbury, the Equip Hub was created with a simple but important mission: to provide individuals with disabilities the tools, confidence, and real-world experiences they need to pursue meaningful employment and greater independence. But what makes this initiative especially impactful is the collaboration behind it. Rather than one organization attempting to solve the problem alone, the Equip Hub brings together nonprofit organizations, businesses, and community leaders who all share a common belief — that every person deserves the opportunity to contribute, grow, and succeed.

One of the key collaborators is Spirit of Huntington Art Center, which will provide pre-vocational and marketing-based classes focused on graphic design, digital art, social media, and creative production. Through hands-on learning experiences, participants will gain practical skills while building confidence in a supportive environment that celebrates creativity and individuality. Spirit of Huntington’s involvement reflects the organization’s longstanding commitment to empowering neurodiverse individuals through artistic expression and real-world opportunity.

Additional partnerships with organizations including Long Island Cares, Trader Joe’s, Toys for Tots, and Huntington Hills Center for Health & Rehabilitation further demonstrate the strength of this collaborative model. Together, these partners will help provide training in office administration, retail, hospitality, nonprofit work, and other career pathways.

The Equip Hub is proof that when organizations unite around a shared purpose, they can create life-changing opportunities. More than a vocational center, it is a place of possibility, inclusion, and hope — where individuals are empowered not only to prepare for employment, but to build brighter futures within a community that believes in their potential.
